Unit 24 – Manage and Market Own Freelance Services
Describe what is meant by freelance services and marketing these services
What does this mean? How do you market yourself as a freelancer within the Creative Industries? Who can be a freelancer? What services are you 'selling'?
- Identify relevant contacts within the industry
- Maintain established business contacts within the industry
- Participate within relevant networks and expert organisations to support own freelance activity
- Use appropriate strategies and tools to enhance own professional reputation and promote own services
- Implement systems to enable early identification of work opportunities
- Identify potential agents or other representatives
- Identify own development needs drawing on a range of relevant sources
- Seek constructive feedback from relevant parties about own performance
- Set, monitor and review realistic objectives for own training and development needs, performance and business targets
- Work flexibly, adapting to the requirements of others as appropriate whilst maintaining own personal work ethic and reputation
- Make appropriate business decisions
- Implement effective systems for managing budgets, finance and documentation
- Maintain appropriate, accurate and up-to-date accounts and records
- Implement effective support services
- Plan ahead to maintain a viable work and cash flow
- Negotiate contracts that meet legal and industry requirements
- Agree realistic fee rates, schedule and other expenses
- Establish clear performance outcomes
- Ensure that contracts include all relevant details, checking that these match agreements
- Communicate the obligations of all parties clearly
- Store a written copy of the final signed contract securely
